What: Primary to Elect Norwalk Democratic Town Committee Members from District E

When & Where: Tuesday, March 1, 2022, from 6 AM to 8 PM. District E’s Three Elementary Schools-Fox Run, Brookside, and Rowayton

Why: On January 10, the Norwalk Democratic Town Committee (NDTC) held caucuses in the five voting districts in our city. Each district elects eleven members for a total of fifty-five members. District E’s caucus was held at Fox Run Elementary School. Of the eleven spots available, our eight candidates won the party’s endorsement, with Jody Sattler receiving the most votes out of all the candidates from both slates. The candidates who lost the vote for the endorsement, some of them incumbents, petitioned for a primary, which will be held on March 1.

While a primary challenge is within the rights of those candidates who lost, it is extremely uncommon, disregards the voices of those who came out to vote, and is an unnecessary taxpayer expense. Furthermore, the primary will be held while school is in session, which is disruptive and contrary to current school safety and pandemic protocols.  

Our group of dedicated volunteers with over two decades of active civic involvement have been working to promote change on a microlevel. Now we want to make a bigger impact by being part of the process that nominates and endorses Norwalk’s candidates for municipal office. This includes the Board of Education, the Common Council, and the Mayor—who are collectively responsible for making the funding and policy decisions that directly affect the education of Norwalk’s students and the quality of life for our city’s residents.
